This year as I send out
birthday cards to members, I am trying to match hymns with
the messages. Hymns that I think will speak to
and perhaps about each person. I would
ask that you look up your hymn and sing it. If singing is a challenge,
then carefully read
the words. Think about what
they say and how they might apply to you. If you have a
special insight from that hymn, I would
appreciate hearing about it. Part of the reason for
doing this is to give each of you something
unique to ponder on your birthday. In
addition, I want to emphasize that our hymns are more than simply pretty
parts of the
service. Indeed they are
intended as a way to honor God and bless us at the same time. I would encourage you to think about the message
of each hymn that we sing. By so
doing you will enter into worship in a way that can’t happen when a hymn
is just sung.
Singing will become more
powerful. One way to aid your worship is to turn to the hymns
shortly before the service begins and silently
read each one. Look at the sermon title, if
you have the chance, read the Gospel text for the day, and then read the
hymns. I think
you will find the effort very
worthwhile and a joy.

PRAYER IN CHURCH
Just a reminder: you can
always ask to include a specific prayer during the church
service. Also, you may ask Pastor Ron to have a
prayer with you following the service.
Prayers can be for any concern including prayers for direction in life
and healing of an illness or injury.
HOSPITALIZATION AND PRAYER
Let Pastor Ron or Dawn know about hospitalizations. Confidentiality issues
do not legally permit hospitals to notify the church when a member is a
patient. Please phone us as soon as you know about someone in the
hospital.
Pastor Ron will meet with anyone desiring prayer
following a worship service. Also, an appointment can be made for special
prayer for times other than Sunday mornings. As always, you may give a
written prayer request for worship prayer to Pastor Ron or give to one of
the ushers on Sunday mornings.
HELP
If you know of a family in need of some financial
assistance, please talk to Pastor
Ron. Bethlehem Lutheran has a fund meant to help ease the pain of bills
beyond a family’s control.
Also, always alert Pastor Ron
or Dawn about those in need of prayer so
we can add them to the weekly or monthly prayer list.
